Berlin Friedrichstrasse

Discover Berlin - with inspiring photos and wall art by Alexander Voss

Typical Berlin: An impression from Friedrichstrasse in the evening.

The photo shows a view from the S-Bahn station of the same name, which crosses Friedrichstrasse, south to the boulevard Unter den Linden.

Friedrichstrasse is one of the oldest and also most famous streets of Berlin. With a length of 3300 meters, it connects Kreuzberg’s Mehringplatz with Oranienburger Tor in the Mitte district.

From 1961 to 1989, Friedrichstrasse was divided between East and West; it was the site of the Allied border crossing Checkpoint Charlie, a focal point of the Cold War.

Today, the former Checkpoint Charlie is just a somewhat garish tourist attraction, and Friedrichstrasse is once again a popular shopping and strolling street in the historic heart of Berlin.
